Aboriginal and Métis involvement in small business and entrepreneurship will be the focus of two new sub-committees of the Saskatchewan Action Committee on the Rural Economy.

The defining and enhancing community group will explore what communities will look like in future and the relationships between First Nations and other communities,

It will also explore best practice models in regional development.

The second committee on small business and entrepreneurship will look at the needs of small business and identify gaps in current programs and policies to enhance business development.

It will research practices used by other governments and see how they could be used in Saskatchewan and gather information on First Nation and Metis involvement in the economy.

Phippen, Sask., spice producer Wanda Wolf and former Pulse Canada chair Germain Dauk of Naicam, Sask., will chair the small business committee.

Yorkton, Sask., web designer Dick DeRyk and Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations vice-chief Guy Lonechild will lead the first group.

ACRE was formed in 2000 to advise government on policy and development strategies in rural areas.
