The cornerstones of The Western Producer as a business are:
- Publishing a credible newspaper with: fair, balanced reporting and informative, entertaining features for Western Canadian farm families; practical production and market information for farmers; editorial commentary supporting co-operation and orderly marketing; and an advertising marketplace for buyers and sellers of agricultural goods and services.
- Meeting the changing needs of our customers.
- Being profitable.
- Fulfilling our commitment to subscribers for timely delivery of the newspaper.
- Providing a working atmosphere of co-operation and mutual respect.

The newspaper has a solid customer base which has been established through seven important characteristics:
