HOGS

Hog and pork prices rose in the United States last week as packers filled the last retailer demand for October Pork Month .

Some analysts expect U.S. prices to weaken as retailer pork sales wind down going into November. The stronger Canadian dollar weighed on hog prices in Canada.

Iowa-southern Minnesota hogs delivered were US$53.50-$54.50 per hundredweight Oct. 9, slightly up from $53-$54 Oct. 2.

U.S. hogs averaged $88.58 on a carcass basis Oct. 9, up from $85.53 Oct. 2.

The U.S. pork cutout was $70.44 per cwt. Oct. 9, almost steady with $70.45 Oct. 2.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter for the week to Oct. 9 was 2.29 million, down from 2.27 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.144 million last year at the same time.
