HOGS

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts is $45.96 Dec. 3, was up from $42.11 Nov. 26.

U.S. hogs averaged $61.80 on a carcass basis Dec. 3 up from $55.13 Nov. 26.

The U.S. pork cutout was $81.37 per hundred weight Dec. 3, down from $83.98 Nov. 26.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Dec. 4 was 2.667 million, up from 2.261 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.786 last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Dec. 4 Signature Four price was C$166.27 per 100 kilograms, down from $168.66.

USDA’s August corn yield estimates are bearish

The yield estimates for wheat and soybeans were neutral to bullish, but these were largely a sideshow when compared with corn.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $164.27, down from $166.66, HyLife was $176.43, down from $178.82, and OlyWest was $161.80 down from $166.60. OlyWest 2021 was $181.70 down from $187.30 and HyLife’s adjusted price was $184.88 down from $182.77.

BISON

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4.00 – $4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls $3.90-$4.15 on heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60 – $4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40 – $4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85-$4.00 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.

LAMBS

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 1092 sheep, lambs and 77 goats Nov 29.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1056 sheep and 327 goats sold Nov 29.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $310-$380 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $320-$375, 70-85 lb. were $273-$340, 86-105 lb. were $226-$274 and 106 lb. and heavier were $235-$242. Wool rams were $162-$195 per cwt. Cull ewes were $135-$230.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $240-$325 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $260-$335, 70-85 lb. were $250-$300, 86-105 lb. were $235-$272 and 106 lb. and heavier were $220-$240. Hair rams were $115-$230 per cwt. Cull ewes were $110-$170.
