HOGS
The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $29.87 on July 24.
U.S. hogs averaged $40.97 on a carcass basis July 31, up from $37.87 July 24.
The U.S. pork cutout was $65.31 per hundredweight July 31, down from $72.68 July 24.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Aug. 1 was 2.543 million, up from 2.583 million the previous week.
Slaughter 2.347 million last year at the same time.
In Canada the Aug. 1 Signature Four price was C$132.48 per 100 kilograms, up from $128.86.
The Hams Marketing cash price was $130.48, up from $126.86. HyLife was $141.34, up from $138.02, and OlyWest was $121.90, up from $115.80. HyLife’s adjusted price was $155.24, up from $157.07.

BISON
Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $5 for prime bulls and $4.80 for heifers for slaughter in the U.S.
U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85 per lb. hog hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.
LAMBS
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 2,040 sheep and lambs and 129 goats sold July 27. Light cull lambs sold steady. All lambs 80 lb. and up sold $5 to $10 higher. Goats sold stronger. Sheep sold steady.
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,560 sheep and 563 goats sold July 27.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $150-$210 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $190-$225, 70-85 lb. were $210-$250, 86-105 lb. were $216-$255 and 106 lb. and heavier were $223-$262. Wool rams were $116-$205 per cwt. Cull ewes were $110-$224.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $125-$180 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $184-$220, 70-85 lb. were $200-$232, 86-105 lb. were $215-$245 and 106 lb. and heavier were $205-$215. Hair rams were $130-$218 per cwt. Cull ewes were $110-$169.
