Hogs rise

U.S. cash hog prices rose on good demand, tight supply of market-ready animals and good packer margins.

Iowa-southern Minnesota hogs delivered to plant rose to $89 US per hundredweight, up from $87 the previous week.

On a carcass basis, U.S. hogs averaged $121.22 per cwt. June 20, up from $114.70 June 13.

The U.S. pork cutout rose to $127.48 June 20, up from $123.45 June 13.

The U.S. estimated weekly slaughter for the week to June 21 was 1.899 million, down from 1.915 million the previous week.

Bison steady

The Canadian Bison Association said finished bison prices remained stable. Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range reached $4 Cdn per lb. hot hanging weight. Grade A heifers sold up to $3.85.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Elk prices

Alberta Wapiti Producers Co-op members price is $7.65 per kilogram, or $3.47 per pound, basis hot hanging carcass weight, for males and females in good body condition, aged 18 months and older delivered to Fort McLeod, Alta.

Lambs stronger

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 1,603 sheep and lambs and 98 goats traded June 16. Well-fed new crop lambs sold higher.

Sheep and heavy lambs traded barely steady. Goats sold steady.
