Bison
The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices of $570 to $600 per cwt., hot hanging weight, for finished bulls and $535 to $600 per cwt. for finished heifers. Mature bull prices were not available, while mature cows were $425-$450 per cwt.
Carcass prices for bison sold into the United States were US$440-$460 per cwt. for bulls and $425-$445 per cwt for heifers. Prices for mature bulls and cows were not available. All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.
Prices for live bison in Canada were C$ per pound for bulls and $2.70 per lb. for heifers of good quality or better.
The mixed live animal price was not available.
Lambs
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 149 sheep and 631 lambs sold Jan. 6.
Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 400 sheep and 119 goats sold Jan. 6.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $340-$390 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $340-$385, 70-85 lb. were $350-$385, 86-105 lb. were $310-$385, and 106 lb. and heavier were $290-$345. Wool rams were $225-$305 per cwt. Cull ewes were $180-$285.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $320-$360, 55-69 lb. were $320-$365, 70-85 lb. were $330-$380, 86-105 lb. were $310-$375 and 106 lb. and heavier were $270-$315. Hair rams were $270-$300 per cwt. Cull ewes were $240-$315.
