Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts on Dec. 13 was $63.64. It was not available on Dec. 6.

U.S. hogs averaged $79.90 on a carcass basis Dec.13, down from $80.13 Dec. 6.

The U.S. pork cutout was $95.53 per hundredweight Dec. 13, down from $90.31 Dec. 6.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Dec. 13 was 2.573 million. It was 2.602 million the previous week.

Slaughter was not available for last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Dec. 14 Signature Four price was $210.57 per 100 kilograms, up from $209.49.

The Dec. 14 Hams Marketing cash price was $208.57, while on Dec. 7 it was $207.49. HyLife was $223.84 this week, while it was $222.35 Dec. 7. OlyWest was $212.20, down from $214.20 last week.

OlyWest 2021 was down, at $220.40, from $221.80, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $225.01 this week. On Dec. 7 it was $222.35.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices of $570-$600 per cwt., hot hanging weight for finished bulls and $535-$600 per cwt. for finished heifers. Mature bulls were not available, while mature cows were $425-$450 per cwt.

Carcass prices for bison sold into the U.S. were US$440-$460 per cwt. for bulls and $425-$445 per cwt. for heifers. Prices for mature bulls and cows were not available.

All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were C$3 per pound for bulls and $2.70 per lb. for heifers of good quality or better. Mixed live animal prices were not available.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 455 sheep and 1,175 lambs sold Dec. 9.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 980 sheep and 508 goats sold Dec. 9.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $300-$360 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $300-$350, 70-85 lb. were $300-$340, 86-105 lb. were $280-$330, and 106 lb. and heavier were $250-$315. Wool rams were $155-$250 per cwt. Cull ewes were $170-$275.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $280-$380, 55-69 lb. were $290-$345, 70-85 lb. were $300-$350, 86-105 lb. were $275-$318 and 106 lb. and heavier were $230-$280. Hair rams were $200-$240 per cwt. Cull ewes were $160-$295.
