Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available Sept. 6. It was $63.59 Aug. 30.

U.S. hogs averaged $76.79 on a carcass basis Sept. 6, up from $76.64 Aug. 30.

USDA’s August corn yield estimates are bearish

The yield estimates for wheat and soybeans were neutral to bullish, but these were largely a sideshow when compared with corn.

The U.S. pork cutout was $96.10 per hundredweight Sept. 6, down from $97.23 Aug. 30.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Sept. 6 was 1.932 million. It was 2.392 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 1.897 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Aug. 31 Signature Four price was $208.28 per 100 kilograms, down from $210.32.

The Sept. 7 Hams Marketing cash price was $206.28, while on Aug. 31 was $208.32. HyLife was not available this week, but on Aug. 31 it was $223.30. OlyWest was $209, down from $215.30 last week.

OlyWest 2021 was down, at $221.70. from $227. HyLife’s adjusted price was not available this week, but on Aug. 31 it was $223.30.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association reported that domestic carcass prices were $525-$550 per cwt., hot hanging weight, for finished bulls and $500-$525 per cwt. for finished heifers. Mature bull prices were not available, but mature cow prices were $350-$375.

Carcass prices for animals sold into the United States were US$425-$450 per cwt. for bulls and $410-$425 per cwt. for heifers. Prices for mature bulls and cows were not available. All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were not available.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 352 sheep and 387 lambs sold Sept. 2.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,966 sheep and 477 goats sold Aug. 26

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $250-$315 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $235-$305, 70-85 lb. were $230-$275, 86-105 lb. were $227-$262, and 106 lb. and heavier were $224-$255. Wool rams were $145-$210 per cwt. Cull ewes were $110-$200.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $230-$310, 55-69 lb. were $225-$265, 70-85 lb. were $220-$265, 86-105 lb. were $225-$260 and 106 lb. and heavier were $220-$260. Hair rams were $100-$200 per cwt. Cull ewes were $145-$200.
