Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts on August 2 was $63.39. It was $64.15on July 26.

U.S. hogs averaged was $84.07 on a carcass basis August 2, down from $82.13 on July 26.

Strong canola exports expected to tighten supply

Canola exports will end up the third strongest in the past 10 years, according to recent Canadian Grain Commission weekly export data.

The U.S. pork cutout was $104.31 per Hundredweight August 2, down from $105.17 on July 26.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to August 2 was 2.392 million. It was 2.326 million on the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.313 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the August 2 Signature Four price was $228.82 per 100 kilograms, up from $222.63.

The August 3 Hams Marketing cash price was $226.82, on July 27 was $220.63, HyLife was $243.46 this week. On July 27 it was $237.57. OlyWest was $227.90, up from $219.80 on last week.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $243.60 from $233.90 and HyLife’s adjusted price was $248.29 this week. On July 27 it was $244.82.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices for finished bulls $515 to $550 per cwt., hot hanging weight (HHW). Finished heifers were $500 to $525 cwt. HHW. Mature bulls were not available. HHW, while mature cows were not available.

Carcass prices for bison being sold into the U.S. were US$420 to US$445 for bulls per cwt. HHW. Heifers were US$410 to US$420 per cwt. HHW. Mature bulls were US$330 to US$350 while mature cows were $US300 to US$330 per cwt. HHW. All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were not available per pound for bulls or for heifers of good quality or better. Mixed live animal price was not available per pound.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 316 sheep and 639 lambs sold July 29.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alberta reported 1831 sheep and 556goats sold July 29.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $280-$350 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $260-$335, 70-85 lb. were $255-$305, 86-105 lb. were $250-$290, and 106 lb. and heavier were $245-$270. Wool rams were $140-$220 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$240.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $260-$315, 55-69 lb. were $250-$325, 70-85 lb. were $250-$295, 86-105 lb. were $250-$280 and 106 lb. and heavier were $240-$260. Hair rams were $150-$185 per cwt. Cull ewes were $105-$245.
