The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available July 12 or July 5.
U.S. hogs averaged $83.04 on a carcass basis July 12, down from $89.45 July 5.

OlyWest 2021 was down, at $226.20, from $229.20, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $229.09 this week, while on July 6 it was $231.31.
Bison
The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices of $515-$550 per cwt., hot hanging weight, for finished bulls and $500-525 per cwt. for finished heifers. Prices for mature bulls and cows were not available.
Carcass prices for bison sold into the United States were US$420-$445 per cwt. for bulls and $410-$420 per cwt. for heifers. Mature bulls were $320-$335 per cwt. and mature cows were $300-$330 per cwt. All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.
Prices for live bison in Canada were not available.
Elk
Markets for farmed elk and most elk products are steady and strong. Meat animals are at $12.50 per kg hot carcass weight f.o.b. the processing plant ($1,500-$2,800 per head).
Not a lot of animals are moving in the midst of calving and antler growth. Breeding stock will begin moving in the next few months, with cows trading from $1,600-$7,000 per head, weaned calves at $500-$5,000 and bulls at $3,000-$30,000.
Trophy bulls are in strong demand, with sales ranging from $2,500 -$12,000 and up for the rare 500 inch and higher bulls.
Frozen velvet antler prices are still rather low due to limited market access, at $28-$35 per pound.
Lambs
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 309 sheep and 680 lambs sold July 8.
Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,658 sheep and 308 goats sold July 8.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $300-$365 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $290-$339, 70-85 lb. were $285-$334, 86-105 lb. were $280-$320, and 106 lb. and heavier were $275-$308. Wool rams were $155-$205 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$220.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $280-$325, 55-69 lb. were $280-$300, 70-85 lb. were $280-$220, 86-105 lb. were $275-$320 and 106 lb. and heavier were $280-$295. Hair rams were $170-$195 per cwt. Cull ewes were $110-$200.
