Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $69.17 May 10. It was $69.36 May 3.

U.S. hogs averaged $88.41 on a carcass basis May 10, down from $89.38 on May 3.

The U.S. pork cutout was $99.77 per hundredweight May 10, up from $98.12 May 3.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to May 10 was 2.381 million. It was 2.381 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.304 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the May 11 Signature Four price was $220.98 per 100 kilograms, down from $220.43.

Russian wheat exports start to pick up the pace

Russia has had a slow start for its 2025-26 wheat export program, but the pace is starting to pick up and that is a bearish factor for prices.

The May 11 Hams Marketing cash price was $219.43, up from $218.43 May 4, while Highlife was $235.32 this week, up from $234.27 May 4. OlyWest was $223.60, the same as last week.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $233.10, from $232.80, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $235.32, up from $234.27 May 4.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association reported that domestic carcass prices were $485-$510 per cwt. for finished bulls hot hanging weight and $475-$510 cwt for finished heifers. Mature bulls were $300-$400 cwt., while mature cows were $300-$400 cwt.

Carcass prices for bison sold into the United States were US$410-$435 per cwt. for bulls and $380-$405 per cwt. for heifers.

Mature bulls were $313-$326 while mature cows were $300-$315 per cwt. All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were C$2.95 per pound for bulls and $2.50 per lb. for heifers of good quality or better. The mixed live animal price was $2.51-$3.33 per lb..

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 465 sheep and 541 lambs sold May 6.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 507 sheep and 154 goats sold May 6.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $240-$305 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $260-$325, 70-85 lb. were $260-$340, 86-105 lb. were $260-$330, and 106 lb. and heavier were $250-$295. Wool rams were $150-$180 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$255.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $225-$275, 55-69 lb. were $260-$325, 70-85 lb. were $260-$305, 86-105 lb. were $260-$305 and 106 lb. and heavier were $250-$290. Hair rams were $155-$228 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$210.
