Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts April 5 was not available. It was $60.14 on March 28.

U.S. hogs averaged was $86.70 on a carcass basis April 5, up from $81.47 on March 28.

The U.S. pork cutout was $97.75 per hundredweight April 5, up from $94.52 on March 28.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to April 5 was 2.314 million. It was 2.388 million on the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.361 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the April 6 Signature Four price was $208.32 per 100 kilograms, up from $203.51.

The April 6 Hams Marketing cash price was $203.22. On March 30 was $201.51, HyLife was $218.47 this week; on March 30 it was $216.58. OlyWest was $206.10, up from $203.30.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $218.80 from $215.60 and HyLife’s adjusted price was $218.80. On March 30 was $218.91.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices for finished bulls $485 to $510 per cwt., hot hanging weight. Finished heifers were $475 to $510 cwt. HHW. Mature bulls were $300 to $400 cwt. HHW, while mature cows were $300 to $400 cwt. HHW.

Carcass prices for bison being sold into the U.S. were US$400 to US$430 for bulls per cwt. HHW. Heifers were US$360 to US$400 per cwt. HHW. Mature bulls were US$313 to US$326 while mature cows were $US300 to US$315 per cwt. HHW. All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were $2.50 to $2.85 per pound for bulls and $2 to $2.50 per pound for heifers of good quality or better. Mixed live animal price was $1.60 to $2.38 per pound.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 156 sheep and 101 lambs sold March 25.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported 1,880 sheep and 615 goats sold March 25.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $250-$360 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $270-$375, 70-85 lb. were $290-$368, 86-105 lb. were $290-$340, and 106 lb. and heavier were $255-$312. Wool rams were $130-$287 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$200.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $230-$325, 55-69 lb. were $270-$335, 70-85 lb. were $260-$345, 86-105 lb. were $290-$330 and 106 lb. and heavier were $240-$312. Hair rams were $155-$225 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$180.
