Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts Mar. 28 was $60.14; it was not available on Mar. 22.

U.S. hogs averaged was $81.47 on a carcass basis Mar. 28, up from $79.30 on Mar. 22.

The U.S. pork cutout was $94.52 per Hundredweight Mar. 28, up from $93.38 on Mar. 22.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Mar. 28 was 1.946 million. It was 1.952 million on the previous week.

Slaughter was 1.921 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Mar. 30 Signature Four price was $203.51 per 100 kilograms, up from $201.48.

The Mar. 30 Hams Marketing cash price was $201.51, on Mar. 23 was $199.48, HyLife was $216.58 this week; on Mar. 23 it was $214.41. OlyWest was $203.30, up from $199.90.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $215.60 from $213.40 and HyLife’s adjusted price was $218.91, on Mar. 23 was $215.33.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices for finished bulls $475 to $550 per cwt., hot hanging weight. Finished heifers were $475 to $510 cwt. HHW. Mature bulls were $300 to $400 cwt. HHW, while mature cows were $300 to $400 cwt. HHW.

Carcass prices for bison being sold into the U.S. were US$390 to US$425 for bulls per cwt. HHW. Heifers were US$340 to US$395 per cwt. HHW. Mature bulls were US$313 to US$326 while mature cows were $US300 to US$315 per cwt. HHW. All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were $2.50 to $3.70 per pound for bulls and $2.00 to $2.70 per pound for heifers of good quality or better. Mixed live animal price was $1.60 to $2.38 per pound.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 209 sheep and 877 lambs sold Mar. 25.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta. reported 1880 sheep and 615 goats sold Mar. 25.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $250-$360 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $270-$375, 70-85 lb. were $290-$368, 86-105 lb. were $290-$340, and 106 lb. and heavier were $255-$312. Wool rams were $130-$287 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$200.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $230-$325, 55-69 lb. were $270-$335, 70-85 lb. were $260-$345, 86-105 lb. were $290-$330 and 106 lb. and heavier were $240-$312. Hair rams were $155-$225 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$180.
