Hogs
The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts March 8 was not available. It was $58.71 March 1.
U.S. hogs averaged $76.18 on a carcass basis March 8, up from $72.67 March 1.
The U.S. pork cutout was $92.11 per hundredweight Mar. 8, down from $94.45 March 1.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to March 8 was 2.351 million. It was 2.443 million the previous week.
Slaughter was 2.398 million last year at the same time.
In Canada, the March 9 Signature Four price was $195.19 per 100 kilograms, up from $195.19.

The March 9 Hams Marketing cash price was $195.50, up from $187.58 March 2, while HyLife was $210.19 this week, up from $207.69 March 2. OlyWest was $195, up from $191.80.
OlyWest 2021 was up, at $210.60, from $208.90, while HyLife’s adjusted price was $211.54, up from $210.60 March 2.
Bison
The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices for finished bulls of $405-$550 per cwt., hot hanging weight. Finished heifers were $475-$510 cwt. Mature bulls were $300-$400 cwt., while mature cows were $300-$400 cwt.
Carcass prices for bison sold into the United States were US$390-$425 per cwt. for bulls. Heifers were $340-$395 per cwt. Mature bulls were $313-$326 while mature cows were $300-$315 per cwt.. All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.
Prices for live bison in Canada were $2.50-$3.70 per pound for bulls and $2-$2.70 per lb. for heifers of good quality or better. The mixed live animal price was $1.60-$2.38 per pound.
Lambs
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 127 sheep and 385 lambs sold March 4.
Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,253 sheep and 163 goats sold March 4.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $300-$365 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $310-$375, 70-85 lb. were $325-$355, 86-105 lb. were $285-$325, and 106 lb. and heavier were $235-$280. Wool rams were $170-$192 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$190.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $260-$345, 55-69 lb. were $310-$375, 70-85 lb. were $315-$336, 86-105 lb. were $285-$305 and 106 lb. and heavier were $230-$263. Hair rams were $145-$175 per cwt. Cull ewes were $130-$200.
