Hogs
The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available for Jan. 5 and Dec. 21.
U.S. hogs averaged $$44.56 on a carcass basis Jan. 5, down from $47.96 Dec. 21.
The U.S. pork cutout was $ 84.20 per hundredweight Jan. 5, up from $81.35 Dec. 21.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Jan. 5 was 1.941 million. It was 1.908 million the previous week.
Slaughter was 1.929 million last year at the same time.
In Canada, the Jan. 6 Signature Four price was $164.47per 100 kilograms, down from $167.58.

The Jan. 6 Hams Marketing cash price was $162.47. It was not available for Dec. 23, HyLife was $174.76 this week; on Dec. 23 it was not available. OlyWest was $154.70, down from $162.90.
OlyWest 2021 was down, at $180.70, from $188.50, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $189.75; on Dec. 23 it was not available.
Bison
The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices for finished bulls were $450-$525 per cwt., hot hanging weight. Finished heifers were $450-$510 cwt. Mature bulls were $250-$300 cwt., while mature cows were $225-$250 cwt.
Carcass prices for bison sold to the United States were US$390-$415 for bulls per cwt. Heifers were $340-$384 per cwt. Mature bulls were $313-$326 while mature cows were $301-$315 per cwt.. All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.
Prices for live bison in Canada were C$1.65-$2.70 per pound for bulls and $1.55-$2.05 per lb. for heifers of good quality or better. The mixed live animal price was $1.60-$2.38 per lb.
Lambs
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,150 sheep and 1,990 lambs sold Dec. 18.
Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,913 sheep and 475 goats sold Dec. 18.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $240-$295 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $245-$295, 70-85 lb. were $220-$266, 86-105 lb. were $191-$250, and 106 lb. and heavier were $191-$230. Wool rams were $140-$198 per cwt. Cull ewes were $200-$265.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $220-$290, 55-69 lb. were $200-$265, 70-85 lb. were $200-$260, 86-105 lb. were $289-$238 and 106 lb. and heavier were $180-$225. Hair rams were $125-$201 per cwt. Cull ewes were $110-$190.
