Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was unavailable Oct. 20 and Oct. 13.

U.S. hogs averaged $670 on a carcass basis Oct. 20, down from $68 Oct. 13.

The U.S. pork cutout was $87.97 per hundred weight Oct 20, down from $90.50 on Oct 13.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Oct. 20 was 2.403 million. It was 2.422 million the previous week. Slaughter was 2.423 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Oct. 21 Signature Four price was $199.63 per 100 kilograms, down from $203.11.

USDA’s August corn yield estimates are bearish

The yield estimates for wheat and soybeans were neutral to bullish, but these were largely a sideshow when compared with corn.

The Oct. 21 Hams Marketing cash price was $197.63, down from $201.11. HyLife was $210.64 this week; the Oct. 14 price was not available. OlyWest was $199.60, down from $203.60.

OlyWest 2021 was down, at $215.70, from $221.10. HyLife’s adjusted price was $210.64; it was unavailable Oct. 14.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 515 sheep and 582 lambs sold Oct. 16.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 2,065 sheep and 593 goats sold Oct. 23.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $170-$214 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $165-$225, 70-85 lb. were $165-$204, 86-105 lb. were $168-$205, and 106 lb. and heavier were $164-$204. Wool rams were $95-$200 per cwt. Cull ewes were $70-$128.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $150-$185, 55-69 lb. were $150-$210, 70-85 lb. were $155-$199, 86-105 lb. were $115-$194 and 106 lb. and heavier were $150-$182. Hair rams were $80-$125 per cwt. Cull ewes were $70-$165.
