Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available Aug. 18 or Aug. 25.

U.S. hogs averaged $84.62 on a carcass basis Aug. 25, down from $93.52 Aug. 18.

The U.S. pork cutout was $93.42 per hundredweight Aug. 25, down from $106.17 Aug. 18.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Aug. 25 was 2.344 million. It was 2.353 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.373 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Aug. 26 Signature Four price was $233.56 per 100 kilograms, down from $242.27.

USDA’s August corn yield estimates are bearish

The yield estimates for wheat and soybeans were neutral to bullish, but these were largely a sideshow when compared with corn.

The Aug. 26 Hams Marketing cash price was $231.56, down from $240.27, HyLife was $246.01 this week, down from $255.32 Aug. 19. OlyWest was $240.30, down from $248.20.

OlyWest 2021 was down, at $251.70, from $259.70, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $ 245.46, down from $255.32 Aug. 19.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 413 sheep and 534 lambs sold Aug. 21.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,802 sheep and 353 goats sold Aug. 21.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $175-$220 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $180-$212, 70-85 lb. were $185-$215, 86-105 lb. were $190-$223, and 106 lb. and heavier were $190-$218. Wool rams were $100-$156 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$160.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $150-$190, 55-69 lb. were $160-$190, 70-85 lb. were $160-$190, 86-105 lb. were $185-$222 and 106 lb. and heavier were $185-$222. Hair rams were $115-$140 per cwt. Cull ewes were $80-$120.
