Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts Aug 3 was $77.32; on July 28 was not available.

U.S. hogs averaged $100.55 on a carcass basis Aug 3, up from $100.47 on July 28.

The U.S. pork cutout was $115.63 per hundred weight Aug 3, up from $113.47 on July 28.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Aug 3 was 1.890 million. It was 1.850 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 1.817 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Aug 5 Signature Four price was $247.71 per 100 kilograms, up from $245.92.

Bond market seen as crop price threat

A grain market analyst believes the bond market is about to collapse and that could drive down commodity values.

The Aug 5 Hams Marketing cash price was $245.71 up from $242.62, HyLife was $262.78 this week; on July 29 it was $260.68. OlyWest was $251.10, up from $247.20.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $260.20 from $256.90 and HyLife’s adjusted price was $263.07; on July 29 was $261.54.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 273 sheep and 235 lambs sold July 31.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta. reported 1,634 sheep and 232 goats sold July 31.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $200-$235 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $190-$230, 70-85 lb. were $190-$227, 86-105 lb. were $200-$233, and 106 lb. and heavier were $200-$253. Wool rams were $90-$190 per cwt. Cull ewes were $85-$193.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $170-$215, 55-69 lb. were $180-$215, 70-85 lb. were $180-$225, 86-105 lb. were $200-$220 and 106 lb. and heavier were $200-$230. Hair rams were $90-$160 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$180.
