Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts May 18 was $64.12; on May 12 was $59.05.

U.S. hogs averaged $78.98 on a carcass basis May 18, up from $70.89 May 12.

The U.S. pork cutout was $83.73 per hundred weight May 18, up from $83.41 May 12.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to May 18 was 1.870 million. It was 1.852 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 1.893 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the May 19 Signature Four price was $192.82 per 100 kilograms, down from 186.67.

The May 20 Hams Marketing cash price was $190.82, up from $184.67. HyLife was $205.54 this week; it was unavailable May 13. OlyWest was $182.50, up from $180.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $195.10, from $193.90. HyLife’s adjusted price was 205.54; it was unavailable May 13.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 211 sheep and 338 lambs sold May 15.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,251 sheep and 307 goats sold May 15.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $220-$290 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $240-$290, 70-85 lb. were $225-$265, 86-105 lb. were $220-$256, and 106 lb. and heavier were $220-$246. Wool rams were $95-$189 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$175.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $200-$250, 55-69 lb. were $230-$276, 70-85 lb. were $220-$261, 86-105 lb. were $220-$235 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-$235. Hair rams were $120-$180 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$145.
