Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts May 12 was $59.05, up from $54.70 May 5.

U.S. hogs averaged $74.36 on a carcass basis May 12, up from $70.89 May 5.

The U.S. pork cutout was $83.41 per hundredweight May 12, up from $81.87 May 5.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to May 12 was 2.315 million, up from 2.311 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.318 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the May 13 Signature Four price was $186.67 per 100 kilograms, down from 186.68.

USDA’s August corn yield estimates are bearish

The yield estimates for wheat and soybeans were neutral to bullish, but these were largely a sideshow when compared with corn.

The May 13 Hams Marketing cash price was $184.67, down from $184.68. Highlife was not available this week, but was $199.32 May 6. OlyWest was $180, up from $174.20.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $193.90, from $190.32. HyLife’s adjusted price was not available, but was $199.32 May 6.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 270 sheep and 539 lambs sold May 8.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,461 sheep and 174 goats sold lat week.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $250-$315 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $250-$310, 70-85 lb. were $240-$275, 86-105 lb. were $230-$255 and 106 lb. and heavier were $220-$250. Wool rams were $105-$180 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$160.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $230-$280, 55-69 lb. were $230-$270, 70-85 lb. were $230-$265, 86-105 lb. were $225-$245 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-$235. Hair rams were $120-$170 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$205.
