Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available for April 28, but on April 21 it was $$53.64.

U.S. hogs averaged $71.67 on a carcass basis April 28, down from $66.02 April 21.

The U.S. pork cutout was $81.32 per hundredweight April 28, up from $80.43 April 21.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to April 28 was 2.374 million. It was 2.256 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.261 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the April 29 Signature Four price was $183.44 per 100 kilograms, up from $180.62.

The April 29 Hams Marketing cash price was $181.44, down from $192.09. HyLife was $194.93 April 29, compared to $192.09 April 22, while OlyWest was $170.70, down from $172.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $186.70 from $185.40, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $194.93, compared to $192.09 April 22.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 518 sheep and 419 lambs sold April 17.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta. reported that 464 sheep and 130 goats sold April 24.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $300-$344 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $250-$325, 70-85 lb. were $260-$315, 86-105 lb. were $230-$275 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-$255. Wool rams were $100-$170 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$190.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $250-$290, 55-69 lb. were $230-$290, 70-85 lb. were $250-$285, 86-105 lb. were $235-$262 and 106 lb. and heavier were $230-$247. Hair rams were $120-$170 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$145.
