Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts March 3 was $57.94, down from $59.58 Feb. 24.

U.S. hogs averaged $78.04 on a carcass basis March 3, up from $77.68 Feb. 24.

The U.S. pork cutout was $85.57 per hundredweight March 3, up from $85.35 Feb. 24.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to March 3 was 2.396 million, up from 2.208 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.360 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the March 4 Signature Four price was C$197.95 per 100 kilograms, up from $194.18.

Farmers in Western Canada can expect price pressure on their new crop of green lentils, as the available supplies among the world’s major lentil-growing nations increase significantly.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $195.95, up from $192.18, HyLife was unavailable this week; it was $199.21 the previous week, and OlyWest was $189.20, up from $182.70.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $203.20, from $194.80, and HyLife’s adjusted price was unavailable; last week it was $199.21.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 371 sheep and 495 lambs sold Feb. 27.

Beaver Hill Auctions in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,623 sheep and 310 goats sold Feb. 27.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $228-275 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $220-266, 70-85 lb. were $220-263, 86-105 lb. were $215-258 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-253. Wool rams were $90-165 per cwt. Cull ewes were $95-185.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $200-235, 55-69 lb. were $230-265, 70-85 lb. were $230-246, 86-105 lb. were $218-245 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-229. Hair rams were $108-170 per cwt. Cull ewes were $105-185.
