Hogs

The U.S. national live price average price for barrows and gilts was not available for Oct. 21 and Oct. 14..

U.S. hogs averaged $88.89 on a carcass basis Oct. 21, up from $87.80 Oct. 14.

The U.S. pork cutout was $100.94 per hundredweight Oct. 21, down from $101.86 Oct. 14.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Oct. 22 was 2.571 million, down from 2.545 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.606 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Oct. 22 Signature Four price was C$230.67 per 100 kilograms, up from $229.73.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $228.67, up from $227.73, HyLife was up to $245.11 from $244.09, the previous week and OlyWest was $230.20, up from $226.90.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $244.20 from $238.30 and HyLife’s adjusted price was up to $245.11. from $244.09.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada range from $4 – $4.25 per pound hot hanging weight with the occasional sale higher. Most animals purchased at $4.25 per pound. Canadian buyers are paying $4.60 – $4.80 for prime bulls and $4.50 – $4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.75-$4 per pound hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.50-$3.75. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 1,332 sheep sold Oct. 17.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,825 sheep and 342 goats sold Oct. 17.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $200-$246 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $210-$260, 70-85 lb. were $180-$240, 86-105 lb. were $160-$213 and 106 lb. and heavier were $155-$184. Wool rams were $87-$165 per cwt. Cull ewes were $95-$160.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $180-$210 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $190-$230, 70-85 lb. were $175-$215, 86-105 lb. were $155-$195 and 106 lb. and heavier were $145-$175. Hair rams were $90-$155 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$155.
