Hogs
The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts Sept. 30 was $72.79 this week.
U.S. hogs averaged $85.08 on a carcass basis Sept. 30, down from $86.34 Sept. 23.
The U.S. pork cutout was $97.59 per hundredweight Sept. 30, down from $100.93 Sept. 23.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Oct. 1 was 2.526 million, up from 2.538 million the previous week.
Slaughter was 2.517 million last year at the same time.
In Canada, the Oct. 1 Signature Four price was C$234.06 per 100 kilograms, up from $234.06.

Bison
Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada range from $4.00 – $4.25 per pound hot hanging weight with the occasional sale higher. Most animals purchased at $4.25 per pound. Canadian buyers are paying $4.60 – $4.80 for prime bulls and $4.50 – $4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.
U.S. buyers are paying US$3.75-$4.00 per pound hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.50-$3.75. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.
Lambs
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 1673 sheep sold Sept 26.
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1332 sheep and 710 goats sold Sept. 26.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $180-$250 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $200-$249, 70-85 lb. were $175-$234, 86-105 lb. were $160-$198 and 106 lb. and heavier were $155-$186. Wool rams were $90-$180 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$155.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $160-$210 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $180-$230, 70-85 lb. were $174-$200, 86-105 lb. were $150-$195 and 106 lb. and heavier were $135-$175. Hair rams were $112-$170 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$155.
