Hogs
The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts Sept. 2 was not available this week.
U.S. hogs averaged $97.68 on a carcass basis Sept. 2, down from $110.25 Aug. 26.
The U.S. pork cutout was $102.25 per hundredweight Sept. 2, up from $102.23 Aug 26.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Sept. 3 was 2.350 million, down from 2.405 million the previous week.
Slaughter was 2.385 million last year at the same time.
In Canada, the Sept. 3 Signature Four price was C$247.93 per 100 kilograms, down from $265.10.

Bison
Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada range from $4.00 – $4.25 per pound hot hanging weight with the occasional sale higher. Most animals were purchased at $4.25 per pound. Canadian buyers are paying $4.60 – $4.80 for prime bulls and $4.50 – $4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.
U.S. buyers are paying US$3.75-$4.00 per pound hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.50-$3.75. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.
Lambs
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 1236 sheep sold Aug. 29.
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1156 sheep and 397 goats sold Aug. 29.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $186-$236 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $170-$230, 70-85 lb. were $160-$199, 86-105 lb. were $142-$188 and 106 lb. and heavier were $130-$180. Wool rams were $90-$185 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$155.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $160-$205 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $170-$190, 70-85 lb. were $160-$181, 86-105 lb. were $150-$181 and 106 lb. and heavier were $130-$150. Hair rams were $125-$175 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$150.
