Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available for Aug. 15. It was US$ 122.84 Aug. 8.

U.S. hogs averaged $123.69 on a carcass basis Aug. 15, down from $124.06 Aug. 8.

The U.S. pork cutout was $121.83 per hundredweight Aug. 15, down from $122.84 Aug 8.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Aug. 15 was 2.338 million, up from 2.332 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.408 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Aug 15 Signature Four price was C$268.60 per 100 kilograms, down from $269.98.

Chinese offer complicates canola marketing

The Hams Marketing cash price was $266.60, down from $267.98, HyLife was down to $285.56 from $286.23 the previous week and OlyWest was $281.80, up from $279.50.

OlyWest 2021 was up to $283.30 from $276.40 and HyLife’s adjusted price was up to $285.56 from $281.63.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.25 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $4.25 for heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.50-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.75-$4.00 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.50-$3.75. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,233 sheep and 120 goats sold Aug. 8.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,604 sheep and 322 goats sold Aug. 8.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $180-$260 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $160-$220, 70-85 lb. were $145-$190, 86-105 lb. were $130-$175 and 106 lb. and heavier were $130-$160. Wool rams were $75-$115 per cwt. Cull ewes were $75-$127.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $135-$175 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $140-$190, 70-85 lb. were $135-$165, 86-105 lb. were $120-$155 and 106 lb. and heavier were $120-$150. Hair rams were $70-$115 per cwt. Cull ewes were $70-$120.
