Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was unavailable April 29. It was $79.15 April 22.

U.S. hogs averaged $100.14 on a carcass basis April 29, up from $99.13 April 22.

The U.S. pork cutout was $104.58 per hundredweight April 29, down from $111.28 April 22.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to April 30 was 2.403 million, up from 2.374 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.442 last year at the same time.

In Canada, the April 30 Signature Four price was C$231.24 per 100 kilograms, up from $224.75.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $229.24, up from $222.75, HyLife was $245.31, up from $239.67 previous week, and OlyWest was $231.10, up from $226.10. OlyWest 2021 was $238.70, up from $226.10, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $245.31, up from $239.67.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $3.75-$4.15 for heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.60-$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,045 sheep sold April 25.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 598 sheep and 119 goats sold April 25.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $295-$355 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $330-$362, 70-85 lb. were $330-$360, 86-105 lb. were $300-$340 and 106 lb. and heavier were $285-$310. Wool rams were $130-$295 per cwt. Cull ewes were $135-$225.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $190-$260 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $250-$330, 70-85 lb. were $300-$350, 86-105 lb. were $280-$360 and 106 lb. and heavier were $250-$300. Hair rams were $130-$265 per cwt. Cull ewes were $140-$275.
