Hogs
The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts wasn’t available Feb. 18. It was $64.73 Feb. 11.
U.S. hogs averaged $86.78 on a carcass basis Feb. 18, up from $82.36 Feb. 11.
The U.S. pork cutout was $109.91 per hundredweight Feb. 18, down from $109.96 Feb. 11.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Feb. 19 was 2.507 million, down from 2.516 million the previous week.
Slaughter was 2.413 last year at the same time.
In Canada, the Feb. 19 Signature Four price was C$207.85 per 100 kilograms, up from $196.66.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $205.85, up from $194.66, HyLife was $222.27, up from $210.76, and OlyWest was $203.30, up from $193.80. OlyWest 2021 was $217.70, up from $206.50, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $234.33, up from $219.75.
Lambs
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 846 sheep and 52 goats sold Feb. 14. Light lambs sold stronger. Heavy lambs sold slightly easier. Sheep and goats both sold stronger.
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,142 sheep and 158 goats sold Feb. 14.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $280-$375 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $330-$410, 70-85 lb. were $325-$387, 86-105 lb. were $295-$350 and 106 lb. and heavier were $265-$292. Wool rams were $130-$205 per cwt. Cull ewes were $130-$255.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $220-$315 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $280-$335, 70-85 lb. were $280-$340, 86-105 lb. were $275-$330 and 106 lb. and heavier were $260-$280. Hair rams were $130-$195 per cwt. Cull ewes were $140-$300.
Bison
Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $3.75-$4.15 for heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.
U.S. buyers are paying US$3.60-$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.
