Hogs
The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $64.79 Feb. 4, up from $56.76 Jan. 28.
U.S. hogs averaged $83.87 on a carcass basis Feb. 4, up from $75.11 Jan. 28.
The U.S. pork cutout was $97.41 per hundredweight Feb. 4, up from $96.39 Jan. 28.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Feb. 5 was 2.436 million, down from 2.526 million the previous week.
Slaughter was 2.673 last year at the same time.
In Canada, the Feb. 5 Signature Four price was C$189.52 per 100 kilograms, up from $181.42.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $187.52, up from $179.42, HyLife was $202.75, up from $193.78, and OlyWest was $184.60, up from $174.90. OlyWest 2021 was $202, up from $192.50, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $206.83, up from $204.53.
Bison
Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $3.75-$4.15 for heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.
U.S. buyers are paying US$3.60-$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.
Lambs
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 948 sheep and 51 goats sold Jan 31. All classes of sheep and lambs sold stronger. Goats sold steady.
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,198 sheep and 332 goats sold Jan. 24.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $280-$375 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $330-$420, 70-85 lb. were $325-$400, 86-105 lb. were $295-$363 and 106 lb. and heavier were $255-$312. Wool rams were $150-$210 per cwt. Cull ewes were $150-$272.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $280-$345 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $280-$345, 70-85 lb. were $280-$340, 86-105 lb. were $267-$320 and 106 lb. and heavier were $267-$280. Hair rams were $150-$225 per cwt. Cull ewes were $150-$225.
