Hogs

The Nov. 5 U.S. national live price for barrows and gilts was not available, but was US$47.09 on Oct. 29.

U.S. hogs averaged $59.90 on a carcass basis Nov. 5, down from $61.70 Oct. 29.

The U.S. pork cutout was $96.33 per hundred weight Nov. 5, down from $96.52 Oct 29.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Nov. 6 was 2.611 million, up from 2.551 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.698 last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Nov. 6 Signature Four price was C$176.31 per 100 kilograms, down from $181.61.

Canada-U.S. trade relationship called complex

The Hams Marketing cash price was $174.31, down from $179.61, HyLife was $187.29, down from $191.29, and OlyWest was $176.90 down from $185.10. OlyWest 2021 was $195.30, down from $203.50 and HyLife’s adjusted price was $200.72, up from $198.38.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 1,236 sheep, lambs and 107 goats Nov 1.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 881 sheep and 201 goats sold Nov 1.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $180-$243 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $190-$239, 70-85 lb. were $185-$239, 86-105 lb. were $185-$233 and 106 lb. and heavier were $200-$229. Wool rams were $130-$165 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$168.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $140-$175 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $170-$200, 70-85 lb. were $175-$215, 86-105 lb. were $180-$215 and 106 lb. and heavier were $190-$210. Hair rams were $144-$170 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$210.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4.00 – $4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls $3.90-$4.15 on heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60 – $4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40 – $4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85-$4.00 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.
