Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was unavailable Sep 3, but was $72.77 Aug. 27.

U.S. hogs averaged $88.85 on a carcass basis Sept. 3, down from $92.54 Aug. 27.

The U.S. pork cutout was $108.15 per hundredweight Sept. 3, down from $119.26 Aug. 27.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Sept. 4 was 2.398 million, down from 2.438 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.466 last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Sept. 4 Signature Four price was C$226.32 per 100 kilograms, down from $234.05.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $224.32, down from $232.05, HyLife was $240.15, down from $247.37, and OlyWest was $235.40, down from $245.80. OlyWest 2021 was $245.80, down from $256.20, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $240.15, down from $249.98.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $3.90-$4.15 for heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85-$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,991 sheep, lambs and 96 goats sold Aug. 30.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,056 sheep and 210 goats sold Aug. 30.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $151-$214 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $179-$221, 70-85 lb. were $170-$207, 86-105 lb. were $180-$210 and 106 lb. and heavier were $200-$212. Wool rams were $135-$148 per cwt. Cull ewes were $130-$180.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $125-$168 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $150-$175, 70-85 lb. were $160-$180, 86-105 lb. were $180-$196 and 106 lb. and heavier were $190-$205. Hair rams were $100-$140 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$150.
