Hogs mostly steady

U.S. hog prices were mostly steady last week, limited by large carcass weights and the prospect of slowing demand heading into turkey season.

Support came from a large Saturday slaughter following the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday and strong packer margins.

Average Iowa-Minnesota hog weights were at record highs for the fourth straight week at 281.4 pounds.

Iowa-southern Minnesota hogs delivered to packing plants edged up to $61 US per cwt., from $60 Nov. 22.

The estimated pork cut-out value was $89.81 Nov. 29, up slightly from $89.68 Nov. 22.
