Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available Jan.22 and Jan. 15.

U.S. hogs averaged $55.46 on a carcass basis Jan. 22, up from $52.72 Jan. 15.

The U.S. pork cutout was $82.83 per hundredweight Jan. 22, up from $80.07 Jan. 15.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Jan. 23 was 2.738 million, up from 2.641 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.707 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Jan. 23 Signature Four price was C$152.94 per 100 kilograms, up from $152.31.

Saskatchewan, Manitoba sign Arctic Gateway deal

Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Arctic Gateway Group have signed an MOU to strengthen trade through the Port of Churchill.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $150.94, up from $150.31, HyLife was $162.63, up from $162.33, and OlyWest was $150.50, up from $145.40. OlyWest 2021 was $169, up from $165, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $171.53, down from $172.82.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $5 for prime bulls and $4.80 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$4 per lb. hog hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 689 sheep and lambs and six goats sold Jan. 18. All classes of lambs sold steady last week. Sheep sold slightly easier than last week’s extreme high. Goat kids sold very strong.
