Hogs
The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $39.37 per hundredweight Jan. 17, up from $38.99 on Jan. 10.
U.S. hogs averaged $50.79 on a carcass basis Jan. 17, up from $50.43 Jan. 10.
The U.S. pork cutout was $75.47 per cwt. Jan. 17, up from $74.50 Jan. 10.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Jan. 18 was 2.574 million, down from 2.695 million the previous week.
Slaughter was 2.488 million last year at the same time.
In Canada, the Jan. 18 Signature Five price was C$133.54 per 100 kilograms, up from C$133.07 the previous week.

Bison
The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range from C$4.40-$5 per pound hot hanging weight, with prices as high as $5.40 per lb. hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.85-$4.15 per lb. with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.
Grade A heifers sold for C$4.40-$4.80 per lb. hot hanging weight with some sales as high as $5.10. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.60-$3.80 per lb.
Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.
Lambs
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,026 sheep and lambs and 32 goats sold Jan. 13. All lambs sold actively at steady prices. Goats sold steady. All sheep sold slightly lower.
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 502 sheep and 69 goats sold Jan 13.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $220-$235 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $230-$250, 70-85 lb. were $230-$263, 86-105 lb. were $190-$245 and 106 lb. and heavier were $190-$205.
Wool rams were $103-$112 per cwt. Cull ewes were $105-$150.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $180-$225 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $205-$236, 70-85 lb. were $220-$245, 86-105 lb. were $180-$236 and 106 lb. and heavier were $170-$195.
Hair rams were $100-$108 per cwt. Cull ewes were $105-$166.
