Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $33.27 per hundredweight Dec. 6, up from $33.18 on Nov. 29.

U.S. hogs averaged $46.59 on a carcass basis Dec. 6, up from $42.80 Nov. 29.

The U.S. pork cutout was $82.08 per cwt. Dec. 6, up from $81.85 Nov. 29.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Dec. 7 was 2.799 million, down from 2.333 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.568 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Dec. 7 Signature Five price was C$127.54 per 100 kilograms, up from C$125.24 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $57.85, up from $56.81 the previous week.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said prices for Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range were C$4.40-$5 per pound hot hanging weight, while some sales were reported as high as $5.40 per lb. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.85-$4.15 per lb. with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold for C$4.40-$4.80 per lb. hot hanging weight with some sales as high as $5.10 per lb. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.60-$3.80 per lb.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,174 sheep and lambs and 24 goats sold Dec. 2. Light cut and new crop lambs traded stronger. Heavy lambs sold steady. All classes of sheep and all classes of goats sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,162 sheep and 261 goats sold Dec. 2.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $170-$200 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $186-$224, 70-85 lb. were $184-$225, 86-105 lb. were $164-$198 and 106 lb. and heavier were $150-$174.

Wool rams were $90-$136 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$130.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $160-$175 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $170-$205, 70-85 lb. were $168-$200, 86-105 lb. were $151-$177 and 106 lb. and heavier were $150-$168.

Hair rams were $95-$125 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$137.
