Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$58.96 per hundredweight June 14, up from $58.87 June 7.

U.S. hogs averaged $75.79 on a carcass basis June 14, up from $75.63 June 7.

The U.S. pork cutout was $83.21 per cwt. June 14, up from $83.08 June 7.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to June 15 was 2.431 million, up from 2.417 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.212 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the June 15 Signature Five price was C$186.47 per 100 kilograms, down from $190.59 the previous week.

Canada’s oat crop looks promising

The oat crop looks promising and that’s a good thing because demand is strong.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $84.58, down from $86.45

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$4.90-$5.20 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.30 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$4.90-$5.10. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.10.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 803 sheep and lambs and 22 goats sold June 10. All lambs sold just steady. Good sheep sold steady while thicker types sold lower. Goats sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 996 sheep and 302 goats sold June 10.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $235-$275 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $230-$275, 70-85 lb. were $225-$260, 86-105 lb. were $225-$240 and 106 lb. and heavier were $220-$235.

Wool rams were $90-$196 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$223.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $210-$250 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $210-$250, 70-85 lb. were $210-$250, 86-105 lb. were $210-$235 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-$230.

Hair rams were $94-$215 per cwt. Cull ewes were $95-$1161.
