Hog prices strong

U.S. hog prices remained exceptionally strong for the season, but were down a little from the previous week.

The number of market ready hogs is tight for several reasons, including the heat in early September in the Midwest, the effects of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus and the reduced use of the feed additive Paylean.

The weather was cooler last week, which should help to spark faster weight gain.

Iowa-southern Minnesota hogs delivered to packing plants fell to $70 US per cwt. Sept. 27 from about $72 Sept 20.
