Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$39.94 per hundredweight Nov. 23, down from $40.51 Nov. 16.

U.S. hogs averaged $50.42 on a carcass basis Nov. 23, down from $51.60 Nov. 16.

The U.S. pork cutout was $66.93 per cwt. Nov. 23, down from $68.18 Nov. 16.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Nov. 24 was 2.273 million, down from 2.618 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.153 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Nov. 24 Signature Five price was C$133.16 per 100 kilograms, down from $135.72 the previous week.

USDA’s August corn yield estimates are bearish

The yield estimates for wheat and soybeans were neutral to bullish, but these were largely a sideshow when compared with corn.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $60.40, down from $61.56.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$5.75-$6. per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.60 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$5.55-$5.80. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.40.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,047 sheep and lambs and 80 goats sold Nov. 19. Light lambs sold $7-$10 per cwt. higher. Heavy lambs traded $3-$5 per cwt. higher. Sheep and goats sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,023 sheep and 291 goats sold Nov. 19.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $185-$210 per cwt., 55-to 69 lb. were $175-$210, 70-85 lb. were $175-$197, 86-105 lb. were $170-$189 and 106 lb. and heavier were $170-$180.

Wool rams were $88-$110 per cwt. Cull ewes were $80-$136.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $150-$175 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $150-$185, 70-85 lb. were $151-$170, 86-105 lb. were $145-$165 and 106 lb. and heavier were $140-$165.

Hair rams were $120-$135 per cwt. Cull ewes were $84-$118.
