Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$29.88 per hundredweight Sept. 7, up from $28.92 Aug. 31.

U.S. hogs averaged $36.57 on a carcass basis Sept. 7, steady from $36.57 Aug. 31.

The U.S. pork cutout was $68.56 per cwt. Sept. 7, up from $67.21 Aug. 31.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Sept. 8 was 2.215 million, down from 2.455 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.198 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Sept. 8 Signature Five price was C$105.19 per 100 kilograms, up from $102.45 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $47.71, up from $46.47.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$6 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.60 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$5.80. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.40.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 836 sheep and lambs and five goats sold Sept. 4. All light lambs traded stronger. Heavy lambs sold $5-$10 cwt higher. Sheep traded steady. Too few goats were on offer to establish a trade.
