Hogs

The United States national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$55.91 per hundredweight July 13, down from $58.38 July 6.

U.S. hogs averaged $74.19 on a carcass basis July 13, down from $76.61 July 6.

The U.S. pork cutout was $83.82 per cwt. July 13, down from $85.52 July 6.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to July 14 was 2.285 million, up from 1.998 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.197 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, July 14 Signature Five price was C$186.52 per 100 kilograms, down from $190.45 the week before.

On a per hundredweight basis, price was $84.60 down from $86.39.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$5.90 to C$6 per pound, hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.60 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$5.80. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.40.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 978 sheep and lambs and 44 goats sold July 9. A medium offering of light new crop lambs sold steady. All other lambs sold steady to slightly higher. Goats sold steady. Good quality sheep both lean and thicker sold at premium prices. All other sheep sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported 1,681 sheep and 433 goats sold July 9.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $205-$250 per cwt., 55 to 69 lb. were $220-$245, 70 to 85 lb. were $212-$238, 86 to 105 lb. were $205-$240 and 106 lb. and heavier were $205-$221.

Wool rams were $80-$155 per cwt. Cull ewes were $75-$161.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $200-$220 per cwt., 55 to 69 lb. were $210-$230, 70 to 85 lb. were $190-$225, 86 to 105 lb. were $200-$235 and 106 lb. and heavier were $190-$215.

Hair rams were $88-$152 per cwt. Cull ewes were $85-$125.
