Hogs rise
Lighter carcass weights and ideas that hotter weather will slow hog weight gain lifted cash hog prices.
Iowa-southern Minnesota hogs delivered were US$57.50-$58 per hundredweight July 10, up from $55-$56 July 2.
U.S. hogs averaged $76.85 on a carcass basis July 10, up from $73.75 July 2.
The U.S. pork cutout fell to $80.79 per cwt. July 10, similar to $80.99 July 2.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter for the week to July 11 was 2.079 million, up from 1.857 million the previous week.
Slaughter was 1.861 million last year at the same time.

Most lambs pressured
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,163 sheep and 146 goats sold July 6.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $225-$265 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $231-$260, 70-85 lb. were $215-$240, 86-105 lb. were $193-$220 and 106 lb. and heavier were $190-$210.
Wool rams were $58-$85 per cwt. Cull ewes were $45-$115.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $205-$240 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $206-$230, 70-85 lb. were $210-$230, 86-105 lb. were $190-$210 and 106 lb. and heavier were $188-$205.
Hair rams were $65-$116 per cwt. Cull ewes were $60-$75 and ewe/lamb family were $150-$210 per unit.
Feeder kids lighter than 60 lb. were $225-$251. Good kid goats lighter than 70 lb. were $240-$290. Those heavier than 70 lb. were $235-$285 per cwt.
Nannies were $70-$142.50 per cwt. Billies were $110-$210.
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,073 sheep and lambs and 42 goats traded July 6.
Light lambs sold barely steady. All other lambs traded under pressure at prices $5 to $8 cwt. lower.
