The Canadian Wheat Board is hoping to save time, money and maybe a few trees with a new program enabling farmers to renew their permit books over the internet.
Farmers must fill out paper applications every year in order to get a new permit book that registers their deliveries of wheat, durum and barley.
Under the new program, called e-Permits, the applications can be submitted using a secure on-line process.
Dave Gallant, manager of business systems for the CWB, said farmers who don’t have access to the internet can go their local elevator and have the agent do the on-line renewal.

Increasing farmland prices blamed on investors
a major tax and financial services firm says investors are driving up the value of farmland, preventing young farmers from entering the business. Robert Andjelic said that is bullshit.
Their other option is to telephone the CWB’s help line at 800-275-4292 and renew the permit book over the phone.
Farmers will still receive a permit book in the mail.
The e-Permits are the latest in a host of internet services offered by the board, including access to delivery contracts, cash advance accounts and information on producer payment options.
Over the next 18 months the board plans to add other electronic services, including signing up for producer payment option contracts, ordering producer cars and farmer account management.
Farmers can register for those services, including e-Permits, through the board’s website www.cwb.ca.
