Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $63.88 Jan. 31. It was $63. Jan. 24.

U.S. hogs averaged $83.43 on a carcass basis Jan. 31, up from $80.38 Jan. 24.

The U.S. pork cutout was $94.75 per hundredweight Jan. 31, up from $91.69 Jan. 24.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Jan. 31 was 2.418 million. It was 2.291 million on the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.4044 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Feb. 1 Signature Four price was $215.95 per 100 kilograms, up from $209.17.

The Feb. 1 Hams Marketing cash price was $209.49, while on Jan. 25 was $207.17. HyLife was $225.58 this week; it was $222.38 Jan. 25. OlyWest was $212.40, up from $211.40 last week.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $223.70, from $222.50, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $228.05 this week. On Jan. 25 it was $223.51.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices of $570-$600 per hundredweight, hot hanging weight. for finished bulls and $535-$600 per cwt. for finished heifers. Mature bull prices were not available, while mature cows were $425-$450 per cwt.

Carcass prices for bison sold into the United States were US$440-$460 per cwt. for bulls per cwt. and $$425-$445 per cwt. for heifers. Prices for mature bulls and cows were not available. All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were C$3 per pound for bulls and $2.70 per lb. for heifers of good quality or better.

The mixed live animal price was not available.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 79 sheep and 227 lambs sold Jan. 27.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported 1,013 sheep and 306 goats sold Jan. 27.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $410-$470 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $390-$465, 70-85 lb. were $360-$425, 86-105 lb. were $300-$395, and 106 lb. and heavier were $290-$350. Wool rams were $185-$240 per cwt. Cull ewes were $140-$290.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $410-$450, 55-69 lb. were $390-$465, 70-85 lb. were $350-$400, 86-105 lb. were $300-$385 and 106 lb. and heavier were $285-$345. Hair rams were $190-$285 per cwt. Cull ewes were $230-$320.
