Viterra Inc. has bought a grain elevator in Foam Lake, Sask., from Richardson International Ltd.
It also will expand rail car capacity at its grain terminal in Carnduff, Sask.
The Carnduff rail siding will be expanded to 112 cars from 56 and 7,000 tonnes of storage capacity will be added, for a total of 33,000 tonnes. Construction is expected to begin this fall and slated for completion in fall 2010.
With the addition of the Richardson Foam Lake elevator to its existing facility, Viterra’s total storage capacity at that location will be more than 14,000 tonnes with a 56 car siding.
“These infrastructure investments are the latest in a series of improvements aimed at increasing our level of customer service and driving further efficiencies in our grain handling system,” said Bob Miller, senior vice-president, grain, North America in a news release.
The company is also building a terminal at Sexsmith, Alta.
