SASKATOON (Staff) – Saskatchewan hog producers have asked their marketing board to look into allowing them to privately contract hogs with buyers.

A resolution passed at the SPI Marketing Board’s annual meeting asks the provincial hog selling agency’s board of directors to consider third party sales, in which producers would make their own deals with processors. But the resolution also suggests this could be done through the board.

The board of directors will discuss the resolution next week, said SPI general manager Jim Morris.
