A company proposing a $3 billion solution potash mine near Southey, Sask., met recently with area residents.
China-based Yancoal Canada Resources expects to produce 2.8 million tonnes of potash a year.
It hopes to begin construction next year with completion targeted for 2020. About 2,200 workers will be needed at the peak of construction, and about 350 will operate the mine.
The Farm Land Security Board gave Yancoal an exemption in February 2014 to buy up to 60,000 acres in the area.
