Durum sales opportunities have arisen, prompting the Canadian Wheat Board to issue an advance delivery call on Series C contracts.

Contract holders can deliver up to their 45-tonne minimum before the official announcement of contract acceptance levels on June 18. The call applies to all grades.

“There are some immediate sales opportunities out there and we don’t want to wait until the sign-up is over and the deadline for acceptance passes,” said CWB spokesperson Maureen Fitzhenry.

No details about the markets were released.

Durum delivery opportunities have been limited this year, as the board issued a 50 percent call on Series A and none under Series B.

A Saskatchewan Wheat Pool market report May 5 said the shipping plan for durum during the four weeks ending May 31 included about 250,000 tonnes destined for Eastern Canada, 180,000 tonnes for the West Coast, of all grades and about 34,000 tonnes of No. 1 and 2 headed for the United States.
