WASHINGTON, D.C. (Reuters) – China will replace Japan as the No. 3 market for U.S. farm exports this fiscal year and in a few years it could be the largest buyer overall, said the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

China is the world’s largest importer of cotton and soybeans. Strong economic growth will spur imports.

At its current rate of growth, China could surpass Mexico and Canada to become the No. 1 market in a few years.
