Pulses: Indian pulse imports from Myanmar fade

Winnipeg, December 7 (CNS) – A farmer in Australia is crediting the use of an air-reel with improvements to his harvest. According to a report in the Goondiwindi Argus, Jeff Nixon says he used to lose an unacceptable amount of chickpea grain while combining until he fixed the vacuum-like device on the front of his machine. He says instead of rattling the pods to the ground, the air-reel picks up everything that is going into the header.
India has been displaced as the top importer of beans and other pulses from Myanmar, according to a report on the Myanmar Times. That honour now goes to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal after India slapped volume quotas on the country’s imports. Myanmar exported 60,000 tonnes of black matpe beans and pigeon peas to India last year.

A story in the Jakarta Post says Russia is attempting to break into the Indonesian chickpea market. Eight Russian companies recently attended the Jakarta International Expo to introduce foods and beverages to various attendees. Russia has been lobbying the Indonesian government for increased access for the better part of a year.
Yellow pea prices in Western Canada rose 25 cents, according to the latest information from the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Bids are listed at C$5.00 to C$7.00 a bushel.
Kabuli chickpeas (9 mm) fell two cents and are currently going for 60 to 64 cents per pound.
Bids for cranberry beans were holding firm at 38 to 48 cents a pound.
Bids for black beans in North Dakota declined by one cent and are going for 33 cents a pound.
